Badla (2019)

REVIEW: If there's one trailer that had me hooked on, Badla captivated me as much as one could get. Thrilling, mysterious, intimidating and most certainly, conniving, I could jump at the thought of having to go to watch the movie this Friday and well, to tell you honestly, it had me stick to my seat for as long as it continued with not an iota of either slouching or waiting for it to get over.

Rooting from its thriller, drama genre, Badla revolves around Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu and surprisingly Amrita Singh. Readers, that’s all I am going to disclose about the story for any sequence of the flick if let out can ruin the entire movie for you. So, beware of spoilers!

It has a solid plot with pretty much every dialogue that will get your thinking caps on. While your grey cells will be running to contemplate into guessing who the killer might be, you’ll question yourself time and again. Well, odds are that you may be able to guess it right, yet the lasting effect of it will, undeniably be breath-taking.

ACTING: If there’s the slightest dubitation in anyone that pertains to the craft, the charisma and the talent that this gifted human being brings on the celluloid, I’d say it calls for reality check for Amitabh Bachchan has an unparalleled sense of art and acting. From a stone faced expression yet the eyes doing the talking to every part of his face screaming out loud about what the character intends to project, he is a man par excellence.

With Taapsee Pannu almost flooding with back to back releases, this woman has upped her game to an all new level. She has carved out a niche for herself and I’d say that she probably has made a mark in the industry. With no particular banner to the backing or a background in the movies and yet popping up with 3-4 releases and moreover, success one after the other, she’s giving everyone a run for their money.

DIRECTION AND OTHER DEPARTMENTS: Director Sujoy Ghosh is known for the thrillers that he makes while with Badla after Kahaani and its sequel, he yet again proves that he’s a master at the art. With exemplary direction, it’s great work done at this flick!

The cinematography is exceptional. The sets aren’t too lavish, but they are apposite for the plot like nothing else could be. The voice over, music, sound effects, I’d say it’s a collaboration of adept craftsmen and technicians to carve out a remarkable flick of the year.

FINAL VERDICT: If there’s one thing I can assure you, it’s the fact that you will have your 2 hours of outright engagement, utmost absorption to the story and feel the least contrite about your devotion to a bewitching story that’ll you’ll relish during and post the watch.

I give Badla 4 out of 5 stars!
