The major ingredients to a thriller- a strong beginning, intriguing characters, a dramatic theme and a path breaking, UNPREDICTABLE, UNFORESEEN climax. Well, while I could vouch for the former, the latter requires strong reasons to be convinced about. Kahaani 2, the sequel of Kahaani, contrary to the popular conjectures and soaring expectations, was a rather disappointing watch as a matter of fact that the story, not only lacked a significant portion of intrigue, but was highly predictable. Every scene of Kahaani (the first movie) brought about new twists and turns, and considering the climax, not one person, other than obviously the director himself, could have anticipated or have kept from being blown away.

Kahaani 2 was a story about a woman played by Vidya Balan, who lived with her daughter Mini. She meets with an accident, when the investigating sub-inspector Inderjeet Singh (Arjun Rampal) chances upon her diary, which unfolds a major chunk of the mystery behind this enigmatic lady.

Although the audience could envisage the possible future events, the acting of the protagonists bound them through and through. The story builds in a systematic order, one scene after the other while the occurrence of each scene gives a hint to the possible next scene. The first hour of kahaani 2 dwells on the past events and their relation or effect on the scenario of the present. The latter half accounts for the supposed unraveling of the truth and the psyche.

Kahaani 2 has been a one-time watch for all those movie buffs. While there was an attempt at developing a thrilling storyline by director Sujoy Ghosh, it amounted to a lot of loopholes and lacunas if it is to be addressed as a movie truly belonging to the thriller genre.

The direction of the film by Sujoy Ghosh has been decent, while it, time and again, calls for a comparison with his attempt at Kahaani (the first movie). While Namrata Rao had appreciably and quite deservingly won accolades and awards for her expertise and skill in editing in Kahaani, it quite lacked in Kahaani 2, wherein the sequence of scenes was too direct, while it called for a better culmination. The movie is a 2 hour 8 minute long eventful journey of the leading lady, which I would star a 2.5 out of 5.
